Chen Silk Reeling

Silk reeling
This workshop will look at the 'figure 8' way of moving in Chen style using the reverse arc and the associated coiling/winding movement. We will then apply the the four primary energies of Peng, Lu, Ji, An in various single and double hand silk reeling patterns. If time permits we can look at a few movements of the chen style hand form to understand the silk reeling application.

Tai Chi Pushing Hands

Push hands
Discover the art of tui shou (pushing hands) a unique practice that cultivates balance, sensitivity and harmony. This 90 minute session will introduce you to the essential principles of leverage, timing and coordination. While push hands is a gateway to the more competitive aspects of the internal arts, the focus at this seminar is not on winning at push hands, but on achieving harmony with your partner!
Ken J Mead
Ken is an instructor with over 27 years of experience in the internal martial arts and has won 5 gold medals in tui shou competition. Click to find out more...

Bagua Nei Gong

Bagua circle walking Nei Gong
Walking the circle is the most fundamental practice in the art of Baguazhang. It strengthens both the muscles and tendons while stretching the connective tissue and developing agile footwork. We will practice the principles of the Gao familys Bagua as they relate it to the '8 trigrams' of the I'Ching. A superb conditioning exercise to add to any practice!
Paul Gitsham
Paul is an instructor with over 27 years of Tai Chi Chuan and other martial arts experience. A push hands gold medalist with a passion for the Shen Fa (body method or mechanics) of the internal arts as well as their application. Click for more...

Protect Self defence

Self Protection
I will be teaching a straightforward, practical self-defence session that cuts through the noise. The session emphasizes the critical role of “the fence” in managing distance and de-escalation, along with delivering quick, effective strikes from this position. Expect an engaging, hands-on experience designed to equip you with real-world skills.

Chris and Bill with Tai Chi Friends

Why we Are Raising Money

At the beginning of the year, our friend Chris (right), who had been a fun and active part of the Harrogate tai chi community, had a skiing accident. He broke his spine in several places and, after hard work, has recovered enough to return home but is restricted to a wheelchair and requires professional support. It has meant significant adjustments for both him and his family. We hope to contribute towards the changes he needs to support his rehabilitation.

In August of this year, we received the sad news that Bill (second left) had lost his long struggle with mental health. Quiet, thoughtful, mischievous and a very experienced martial artist, he is greatly missed. We want to remember him by making a donation to the charity Mind.

All of the instructors have kindly donated their time for free, and the Martial Arts Hut has also been donated for the weekend. All monies are going to Chris and Mind.
